Global Duduk Academy
Learn Duduk with Canberk Ulaş
Besides performing internationally, Canberk Ulaş has a mission to teach the duduk to people around the world. He began teaching online in English during the pandemic, and it soon became an almost full-time commitment. Over the years, he gained extensive teaching experience and noticed how much the videos he recorded for his private students helped them between lessons.
Canberk’s approach puts listening, watching and imitation at the centre of learning. While many teachers and schools rely heavily on sheet music, following a Western conservatory model, he believes the duduk needs a different approach. It is a folk instrument with a long oral tradition, carrying musical nuances that cannot be fully written on paper.
Watching a duduk player allows learners to notice details in the sound, phrasing and technique, even when those details are not explained. Clear explanations help students understand what to do, while watching and imitating help them put it into practice. Sheet music is also provided, but it is a supporting tool rather than the main way of learning.
After a full year of dedicated work, Canberk brought this teaching philosophy into Global Duduk Academy, a structured online learning platform for the Armenian duduk. The Academy launched in September 2026 and now brings together more than 50 members from over 20 countries.
Members follow a step-by-step curriculum through carefully prepared video lessons, progressing at their own pace. Through Full Membership, they also receive personal guidance from Canberk, feedback on their playing, monthly live group sessions and access to the community.
The community is an important part of the Academy. People who share a love for the sound of the duduk can meet, ask questions, share their progress and learn together, wherever they live.
Personal guidance without regular private lessons
One of the Academy’s biggest advantages is that students can receive ongoing teacher support without booking and paying for each private lesson.
Canberk is personally involved: Full Members can send him questions, receive feedback at checkpoints and join the monthly group sessions. The video curriculum allows them to revisit explanations and demonstrations whenever they need to, while his guidance helps them understand what to work on next.
This monthly subscription makes learning with teacher support more affordable than regular private lessons, while giving students the flexibility to practise in their own time.
